Villages with fiber: Cañamero and cave paintings

Connected Villages

Few people know that in the town of Cañamero, there are the cave paintings of the“Cueva Chiquita“, also known as “Cueva de Álvarez”. These are the first paintings of the Chalcolithic (about 1,500 years BC) discovered in the province of Cáceres. A period in which the so-called ” Schematic Art” was developed in this area.

.

The entire peninsula has deposits of this rock art, but the greatest concentrations of schematic stations are found in the mountains of the Levantine coast, in Sierra Morena, in the Tagus estuary and in the central mountain ranges of the Central Plateau, where the region of La Batuecas stands out.

The first time the importance of the cave paintings of Cañamero was noticed was in 1916, when the French archaeologist Henri Breuil visited the cave and was amazed by the quantity, more than a hundred signs, and the variety of motifs drawn on the rock, from human figures, crosses, ceilings, dots and stripes, or animals.

To visit this cave you have to follow the gorge of the Ruecas river very close to the Charco de la Nutria, one of the most emblematic places of the town where generations of Cañameronians have learned to swim. This natural pool, among trees and vegetation, is ideal for children because of its low water level.

Culture and leisure come together in this town of Cáceres, with more than 1,600 inhabitants, a population that doubles in summer with the return of many emigrants and their families. Cañamero is connected by Asteo Red Neutra fiber from the end of 2021. If you live in this town and want to connect to ultrafast Internet via fiber optics, send us your details and we will inform you of our authorized operators in the area.
