Valdehornillos, with 618 inhabitants (INE), is a minor local entity and is among the towns with Internet access and ultra-fast fibre optic.
With just 55 years of history (it was founded in 1969 as part of the “Badajoz Plan”), this town grew thanks to the work of young families from other regions, who devoted themselves to agriculture and made its watermelons, tomatoes and melons renowned… They even dedicated a music festival to the latter fruit, “Melon Music”, thanks to the initiative of the youth association Ajova.
The Sunflower Landscape

Valdehornillos and “the sunflower landscape”
Valdehornillos is full of routes such as the one to the Búrdalo area, which can be done in winter to see cranes and other birds, in spring to enjoy the sowing season, and in summer to observe the crops and the sunflower landscape, as the town is surrounded by this crop.
For those who wish to visit this municipality during the festive season, there are several opportunities throughout the year: “Las Candelas” on 2 February, Saint Peter’s Day on 29 June, and the pepper fairs and festivities on 24 September. These traditions reflect the unique identity of Valdehornillos, a young town that has forged a strong, vibrant community.
