The origin of the name Melgar de Fernamental dates back to ancient times, with Celtic and medieval roots. “Melgar” comes from the Celtic term describing cultivated land, while “Fernamental” refers to Fernán Armentález, a 10th century nobleman who repopulated the area. This place has witnessed important historical events, from Roman settlements to the visit of King Philip III in 1612. Melgar’s cultural heritage is reflected in its architecture and in the traditions that are still kept alive among its inhabitants.
