The peñas that revitalize Villafruela, a Burgos municipality with fiber optics

Connected Villages

Villafruela, a small town in Burgos with less than 200 inhabitants, doubles its population in August thanks to the fact that many of its recurrent visitors, relatives of neighbors or people who have some kind of relationship with the municipality, meet and reunite.

The reason? The San Lorenzo Festival and the various activities organized by the City Council of Villafruela, associations and Peñas so that in summer the village is filled with joy.

This quiet town in Burgos is one of the municipalities through which Asteo’s neutral ultrafast fiber optic network runs and thanks to which, those who move during the summer period to enjoy the natural landscapes and the plains of Villafruela, can do so without giving up remote work, their favorite series, or consoles.

Culture, open-air dances, tapas and shows

The Peñas de Villafruela are very active and 2023 could not be an exception. This year the municipality has a full program of activities from late July until August 19, whose most special moment is the Festival of San Lorenzo, a milestone that makes the town double its population and that each year adds new initiatives such as the Viva San Lorenzo! which in a few weeks celebrates its second edition.

In this page of Villafruela on Facebook you can consult all the details about the activities that will take place in the main weeks of the summer as the exhibition “El hablar de la melgueria” about the popular sayings and words of the area, organized by the Association “La Charca”, parties with music until dawn, theatrical performances, a costume ball for children and even a workshop on the language of the bells.

Undoubtedly the affection of the Peñas, the Associations and the inhabitants of Villafruela, make it a good option to include this small town in the rural tourism routes of Castilla y León this summer.
