Madrigalejo is a municipality with fewer than 2,000 inhabitants (1,712 according to the 2023 INE) known for being the place where King Ferdinand II of Aragon passed away, where “a king died and Spain was born,” an event commemorated every January 23rd during “Semana Fernandina.” Located 38 minutes from Trujillo (48 km), it is one of the towns that make up Asteo‘s ultra-fast fiber network.

“Arracada.” Spray paint on wall by “Sojo” in Madrigalejo
There are many curious aspects to Madrigalejo, one of them being that it was the residence of Pedro Almodóvar in the 1960s, when he was only 10 years old. It is said that at that time the town had five cinemas which may have influenced his passion for the seventh art.
Another curious aspect that brings color to its streets is being the birthplace of the artist Jonathan Carranza “Sojo,” who always keeps the town in mind in his work. One of his murals is an example of the interest of Madrigalejo residents in remembering other aspects of their history, such as “Arracada,” which reproduces on a large scale a Celtic jewel found in the municipality. The original is currently in the National Archaeological Museum, and a replica exists in the local municipal museum. The significance of that replica lies in the fact that many of the residents collaborated to create it.
