Nature, Gastronomy, and Connectivity in Abertura

Formerly known as San Juan del Retamal, due to the abundance of broom plants in the vicinity of the town and the Church of San Juan Bautista, it features a predominantly flat landscape, crossed by the rivers Búrdalo and Alcollarín and surrounded by asparagus fields. Precisely for this reason, the gastronomy of this small town has a clear protagonist: asparagus gazpacho, along with the well-known migas and traditional gazpacho.
Its history dates back to Roman times, with remnants such as a votive altar found in the area. In the 16th century, it belonged to the Tierra de Trujillo, and since 1834 it has been an independent municipality within the judicial district of Logrosán. Its economy has been shaped by agriculture and livestock farming, serving as a key point in the transhumance of livestock.
For hiking and trail enthusiasts, Abertura offers the “El Venero” route, where the ruins of a hydraulic mill can be observed. This town celebrates its festivities in May in honor of its patron saint San Gregorio.
Abertura preserves its traditional architecture with houses featuring imposing facades and the Hermitage of Santa Ana, in Romanesque style. Additionally, it is part of the network of towns with Asteo’s ultra-fast fiber, combining its historical legacy with modern connectivity.
