The 15th-century castle that houses the “Señorío de Olmillos” Hotel and Restaurant, in the Burgos municipality of Olmillos de Sasamón (106 inhabitants), has been equipped with a state-of-the-art fiber optic network thanks to the collaboration between Asteo Red Neutra, ZTE and the construction company Gestioniza.
The installation, which uses FTTR (Fiber to the Room) technology, provides symmetrical connectivity of up to 1 Gbps per room, full Wi-Fi coverage, and ultra-low latency, without altering the aesthetics or the historical structure of the building.
With this initiative, the hotel will be able to offer its guests a complete digital experience, facilitating services such as remote work, live streaming, virtual tours, or online training.
“Improving connectivity through fiber optics in such a unique establishment is a clear example of how tradition and technology can coexist and strengthen each other. Connecting rural environments and heritage spaces like this castle is key to revitalizing the territory and offering new opportunities,” notes Pedro Abad, CEO of Asteo Red Neutra.
The project is part of Asteo Red Neutra‘s strategy to bring high-speed connectivity to rural municipalities with fewer than 10,000 inhabitants in Castile and León, Extremadura, and Castile-La Mancha, through a transmission network of more than 2,400 kilometers.
The Hotel Castillo Señorío de Olmillos, managed by the Amcotur group, stands out for its heritage value and its four-star accommodation offer. Thanks to this technological improvement, it will be able to attract new visitors, events, and digital activities, contributing to the economic and tourism boost of the Burgos region.
The deployment in Olmillos de Sasamón has received financial support from the UNICO Broadband program, promoted by the Ministry for Digital Transformation and funded by the European Union through NextGenerationEU.
