Melgar de Fernamental, a picturesque municipality in the Odra-Pisuerga region of Burgos, stands out for its rich history and strategic location on the banks of the Pisuerga River. With a population of approximately 1525 inhabitants, this charming place offers a quiet environment and a welcoming community, ideal for those seeking the peace of the countryside without giving up essential services. The town is known for its Plaza de España, where the Town Hall and the Santa Ana Cultural Center, symbols of the social and cultural life of the municipality, are located.

The origin of the name Melgar de Fernamental dates back to ancient times, with Celtic and medieval roots. “Melgar” comes from the Celtic term describing cultivated land, while “Fernamental” refers to Fernán Armentález, a 10th century nobleman who repopulated the area. This place has witnessed important historical events, from Roman settlements to the visit of King Philip III in 1612. Melgar’s cultural heritage is reflected in its architecture and in the traditions that are still kept alive among its inhabitants.

This municipality of Burgos is one of the localities connected by Asteo Red Neutra thanks to the financial backing of the UNICO Broadband 2022 program, promoted by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation and funded by the European Union through NextGenerationEU.
