{"id":4081,"date":"2024-05-22T17:53:05","date_gmt":"2024-05-22T15:53:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/asteo.es\/innovation-in-optical-communications-at-the-university-of-valladolid\/"},"modified":"2026-04-24T11:53:07","modified_gmt":"2026-04-24T09:53:07","slug":"innovation-in-optical-communications-at-the-university-of-valladolid","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/asteo.es\/en\/innovation-in-optical-communications-at-the-university-of-valladolid\/","title":{"rendered":"Innovation in optical communications at the University of Valladolid"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4>Asteo Conecta&#8221; Day at the XVII Aotec Fair<\/h4>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h1><strong><span style=\"color: #2670ca\">Interdisciplinary collaboration and technological innovation key to addressing connectivity challenges in today&#8217;s society<\/span> <\/strong><\/h1>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h5>Professors <strong>Juan Carlos Aguado<\/strong> and <strong>Noem\u00ed Merayo<\/strong>, both from the <a href=\"https:\/\/gco.uva.es\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Optical Communications Group of the School of Telecommunications Engineering (ETSI)<\/a> of the University of Valladolid, presented the advances in research work developed by the training institution as well as collaborations with companies and future projects in the field of optical communications.<\/h5>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2206\" src=\"https:\/\/asteo.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/Diapositiva2-UVA-1024x432.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"491\" height=\"207\"><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/noemi-merayo-alvarez-29967947\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><span style=\"color: #000000\">Merayo<\/span><\/strong><\/a> y <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/juan-carlos-aguado-28a2262\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #000000\"><strong>Aguado<\/strong><\/span><\/a> explained how their work has evolved from its initial focus on physical technology to the integration of artificial intelligence and telematics in the communication networks of the future.<\/p>\n<p>Among the most outstanding projects presented were <strong><span style=\"color: #000000\">Onofre-3<\/span><\/strong> y <span style=\"color: #000000\"><strong>Artemis<\/strong><\/span>, both focused on transportation and access network planning, with practical applications such as autonomous cars and medical care. <span style=\"color: #000000\"><strong>Aguado<\/strong><\/span> explained how artificial intelligence has been integrated into these projects to optimize the use of resources and improve network efficiency.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\"><strong>Merayo<\/strong><\/span> provided an overview of the current state of fiber optic networks in Spain, highlighting the country&#8217;s leadership in the deployment of FTTH and FTTB technologies, as well as its position at the forefront in Europe.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, he presented the work carried out for the development of the XGSPON technology. <span style=\"color: #000000\"><strong>XGSPON<\/strong><\/span> technology in collaboration with Spanish companies, emphasizing the university&#8217;s capacity to carry out research and development in collaboration with the private sector.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2208 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/asteo.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/Diapositiva8-1024x576.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"487\" height=\"274\"><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A central part of the presentation was the detailed description of the project <span style=\"color: #000000\"><strong>XGSPON<\/strong><\/span>project, which involved the design and development of an OLT (Optical Line Terminal) aimed at medium-sized operators.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2210 \" src=\"https:\/\/asteo.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/Diapositiva10-e1716392786856-1024x562.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"543\" height=\"298\"><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\"><strong>Merayo<\/strong><\/span> explained how proprietary technologies were combined with open source solutions based on SDN (Software Defined Networking), which allowed the creation of a flexible and adaptable architecture.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2212 \" src=\"https:\/\/asteo.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/Diapositiva9-1024x576.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"559\" height=\"315\"><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, <span style=\"color: #000000\"><strong>Juan Carlos Aguado<\/strong><\/span> delved into the importance of network infrastructure in rural areas, presenting an innovative model of public-private collaboration to reduce deployment costs and improve connectivity in these areas.
