The World y Actualidad Económica have recognized the work of the Asteo Observatory as one of the 100 Best Ideas of 2023 in the category of Digitalization and Industry 4.0.
The award is an initiative supported by CaixaBank and each year it selects, among all the projects presented by companies from different fields, the most innovative ideas in each sector, rewarding those that allow accelerating the growth rate of companies, as well as improving the rate of job creation.
The studies carried out by the Asteo Observatory provide further insight into the digital habits of the rural areas of Spain that do have Internet.In Spain, fiber optic coverage is lower in rural areas (74%) than in urban areas (87%), however, in municipalities with less than 10,000 inhabitants, when they have access to this service, they use it and connect through devices that require good bandwidth performance.
Thanks to the surveys conducted by the Observatory, we have data such as that 7 out of 10 residents of rural areas use the Internet very frequently to make transactions with the bank, and 6 out of 10 to watch movies, series or sports, or that for 9 out of 10 people over 55 years of age it is not only important to have the service, but also that there are programs that help them develop their digital habits. Other data obtained indicate that the youngest (18 to 34 years) are those who. “most use Smart TV (75%), Tablet/iPad (70%) and Consoles (43%)”.in addition to leading online shopping. Likewise, in relation to possibilities such as teleworking, the study has been able to determine that 4 out of 10 active residents can work telematically from their town of residence.
Conducting specific studies in rural populations on the use of new technologies associated with Internet service is relevant to give visibility to small towns and help boost their development.
